We scraped active lesions in 6 dogs for direct diagnosis and collected insects in domiciliary y area and in the forest around 40 houses using CDC light traps between 1800 and 2200 h. We processed samples from the 6 canines and 181 pools of sand flies (1-3 females per pool), for the PCR, we used universal primers for genus leishminia OLI and OL2, for subgenera B1 and B2 and species- specific sequences.
